It's time to approach public health work with transparent reciprocity.
We are a dedicated resource for Black people in New Mexico providing greater access to policy, programing and paradigms that improve BIPOC maternal health over the life course and advance Black women’s leadership in public health.
Black Maternal Health Week is a national, annual event.
BHNM 2022 policy brief | New Mexico’s BMHW 2022 State Proclamation
April 11—17, 2022 marked the nation’s fifth annual Black Maternal Health Week, a week designed and implemented by The Black Mama’s Matter Alliance, to uplift the voices and thought leadership of Black Moms and women-led organizations.
New Mexico’s urgent opportunity is to align community-driven solutions with policy, funding and leadership opportunities for Black Women, Black women-led organizations and the the communities most impacted by poor MCH outcomes in our state. Communities always have the solutions to the problems they face, but rarely have the funding and autonomy to implement them. The question has never been “can we fix things” but rather, are we willing to.

“Nobody knows communities better than they know themselves.”
Communities and institutions can change outcomes for themselves and the people they serve by replacing outdated notions of charity and external expertise with culturally competent reverence for the community itself.
Using creative, collaborative and accountable strategies for birthing something new, we can help you with this process. If newness is frightening we will challenge that fear with a bold joy for change, heart centered tenacity and an underlying confidence in new ways of approaching old problems. Let's turn public health right side up, it's time to change the way we approach community health and intervention.
